Without him, there are no races at the Powerman Zofingen. We asked race director Stefan Zinniker what the athletes can expect this year.
What is the current status of the plans?
The work is on track. All route permits are in place, the planning of the transition zone has been completed and the schedule is set. With regard to a possible emergency, we are already well advanced in our planning and it is only a matter of fine-tuning. A lot of work has also been done for the athlete information, the race guide is already online in version 2.0 and version 3.0 is already in preparation. Everything is currently going according to plan.
Will there be any changes to the course at the Powerman Zofingen 2025?
No, there are no changes to the route. We want to stick to the tried and tested and promote continuity. We offer interesting and challenging routes. The athletes appreciate it when the routes don’t change every year. A new race is planned for Saturday with the Zofingen 5000.
What is the new barrel?
Zofingen 5000 is a run over 5 kilometers, which takes place on a flat course. There are various running events that offer this distance. However, these are always embedded in various mostly longer distances, which are the main race. On Powerman Saturday there is only the Zofingen 5000 as a running event.
“The aim should also be to draw the running scene’s attention to the Powerman.”
Why is an easy run now part of the Powerman program?
In recent years, the number of participants in the older Powerkids categories has been consistently low, and in some cases even declining. After last year, when even more children’s races were held and Saturday took a lot of substance and many things didn’t run smoothly, we had to think about the future program. Sunday is the main event, but Saturday should also provide spectators with excitement. This led to the idea of holding all the competitions on General-Guisan-Strasse. The Pfüderis will open Saturday at 13:45. Then the Powerkids aged 7 – 11 will complete their races. The 12 to 15 year olds will run the 2 km race and all the older kids will run the 5 km race. The aim is to make the running scene aware of the Powerman. Perhaps one or two of them will take part in the short distance next year.
What is the registration status?
The number of registrations is currently higher than at the same time last year. As all athletes taking part in the World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Championships have to register in the World Triathlon registration tool first and are only transferred to the tool from our timing provider Datasport later, it may not be up to date. However, we are confident that we will be able to increase the number of participants this year.
What do you still have to do in the coming months?
There is still a lot to do before we are ready to welcome athletes from over 30 nations to Zofingen for the World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Championships. The traffic concept for Saturday and Sunday still needs to be finalized in detail. Local residents also need to be informed about the situation on the day of the competition by means of a letter, which will then also be available on our website. We are in monthly meetings with the World Federation to clarify all the details with them. The Race Guide will also be published monthly with news so that everyone is clear about how the competition weekend will run. Then there are various little things that need to be done the day before. I will only be finished with the preparations when the first starting shot is fired at 8 a.m. on September 7, 2025.
