THE NIGHT OF DUATHLON – A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION TO THE 2025 SPORTS YEAR

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, Swiss Duathlon and Powerman Zofingen invited guests to the Night of Duathlon at the AUSO event venue in Zofingen.

The Night of Duathlon brought together the Swiss duathlon community: the varied program included honors, awards, reviews and previews, and an interview with multiple orienteering world champion and Olympic marathon participant Matthias Kyburz. The program was rounded off by local dance groups from “the Art of Generations.”

In keeping with tradition, Stefan Ruf, OC President of Powerman Zofingen and, since fall 2025, also President of Swiss Triathlon, kicked off the evening with a welcome speech, before Thomas Mächler, Director of Swiss Duathlon, presented the awards for the 2025 Duathlon Series and the international championships. This year, there was a new feature at the awards ceremony: instead of traditional trophies, the athletes were presented with personalized running shirts from INVERSE. Not only were the category and ranking noted on the shirt, but the sleeves also came in “gold, silver, or bronze.”

Next, Thomas Mächler presented the 2026 race series, which has been expanded to include the Erlen Triathlon, Eglisauer Triathlon, and Triathlon Ruggell (FL) duathlon races. Duathlon National Coach Cameron Lamont then presented the 2026 international races to those present. Last but not least, he introduced the members of the 2026 national squad (national team, transition squad, selection squad).

Before the first dance performance by the junior women of “the Art of Generations,” it was pointed out that the online shop for the Age Group Kit will be open until January 25, 2026. The racing suit and other items can be ordered at https://www.swisstriathlonshop.ch/produkt/age-group-duathlon-kit/. Important: from now on, only INVERSE racing suits may be worn in international races.

The event continued with a review of Powerman Zofingen 2025 in pictures and video. Stefan Ruf also highlighted the challenges facing Powerman and the changes that are in store in the near future. The next item on the agenda was an exciting live interview with Matthias Kyburz conducted by Aeneas Appius. The audience listened intently and learned how Matthias came to switch sports, what differences he has noticed between the two disciplines, and how orienteering and marathon running are not so different after all.

Another highlight was the Swiss Duathlon Awards. Andrea Käppeli and Michael Pfanner were voted Duathletes of the Year 2025 in a public vote. Luna Sommerfeld was named Rookie of the Year. Stefan Ruf’s closing remarks were followed by another dance performance, this time by the adults, before the event moved on to the social part with drinks and snacks.
